Description
Bian is an important component of Chinese art. It is either three or four words written in Chinese calligraphy. A three word Bian usually tells the name of a hall, such as the Hall of Heavenly Peace hanging in the center hall of the Forbidden City. A four word Bian often expresses the owner's moral beliefs. Reflecting the emphasis on higher education in Confucius culture, this one in particular means "a diploma of passing the imperial educational exam is as worthy as the sun and the moon". Bian is traditionally hung on the wall of living room above a sofa set and facing the door. Anyone who enters the room will see the Bian immediately so that reading the saying on the Bian becomes a daily ritual. This is one of a kind item to collect and will last generations to admire.
Care
Antique wood furniture and decor should not be cared for in the same way that modern furniture is cared for. Avoid polishes, abrasives, and oils as this can alter the piece over time. Like all wood furniture, avoid direct exposure to sunlight, heating vents, and other heat sources as the dryness caused by these can damage the wood.
Regular cleaning can be done using a damp microfiber cloth. Make sure to remove any excess moisture left behind.
